In January, 16,000 new displacements were monitored by the UNHCR-led Protection and Returns Monitoring Network (PRMN), a decrease of 8,000 compared to last month.
Half of the displacements occurred in Cadaado district, Galgaduud region, due to clan conflicts in the area. In 2018, PRMN monitored an estimated 883,000 internal displacements due to conflicts, floods and drought.
There are an estimated 2.6 million internally displaced people in Somalia.
Since 2014, over 124,000 people have voluntarily returned to Somalia from twelve countries of asylum including Kenya, Yemen, Djibouti, Libya, Tunisia and Eritrea.
Somali spontaneous refugee returnees continue to return to Somalia through different border locations.
